My New Obsession

How I Met Your Mother. It is so funny and relatable. I am obsessed. I cannot get enough. I don't think there has been a sitcom this funny, whimsical, and absolutely clever since Seinfeld. Jonathan and I have been watching it from the first season, which I recommend. Check the show out HERE. This is the way life should be. For real.

Run Over by a Truck: ACL After Effects

This song is an excellent representation of how Jon and I feel after 2 days of ACL awesomeness. Weezer says it perfectly and took the words right out of my mouth! Hehe. We got to see some of my ALL TIME favorite bands and I have to say, we experienced 2 days of pure joy. More to come on ACL soon! Pictures and details of our most favorite weekend ever! Not only did we get to experience the best ACL lineup (in our opinion) but it was our Anniversary weekend! One year as husband and wife! We had a beautiful weekend and it is one we will never forget! =)

Wheel Admiration

I loved this idea and had to share it. What a cute idea for a table! I had to share this with my family because this is the type of thing they would totally enjoy making and which would look super cool with their decor (especially Dad's!)

This is a simple and very hip idea for a table. Check it.

Gearing up for Awesomeness

That's right... the summer months are here and that can only mean one thing... well, two or three things actually.

1) Schlitterbahn!!!

We missed it last year due to some unfortunate and absolutely ridiculous (on our part) circumstances. We waited until the last weekend, got all ready, drove all the way there, walked up to the entrance... and realized we didn't bring the actual tickets. Yep... we brought the top part and not the tickets; we had to give it up. The dream of Schlitterbahn water and rides was crushed then and there. There was no way to get the tickets and actually make it to the park and they were closed the next weekend (although we didn't know this at the time). Boo hoo. =(

2) Warm-up for ACL!!!

We also missed ACL last year (bummer , I know) because we were preparing for the wedding and it was the weekend before. =) It was raining and from what we heard, it was absolutely miserable. Whew. We got our money back (sold the tickets on Craig's List), had the time to prepare for the best day of my life, and stayed dry and non-muddy in the process. =) However, we really missed it and are SUPER THRILLED about this year's lineup.

OMG! The Strokes!!! Spoon!!! Vampire Weekend!!! I am so excited that I can't go on.

3) Rev-up for Ren Fest!

And last but certainly not least, we also missed Ren Fest last year because it was so soon after the wedding and we were broke as a joke. But not this year. This year we are getting ready for it early, we may actually dress up, and will definitely be with Flag. =) WOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!!!

Here we go 2nd half of 2010! Coming at cha strong! LOOK OUT!

Better late than never, right?

I hadn't posted any shots of our Christmas lights and wanted to (even this late, hehe) because we worked so very hard on them. Here are some shots of our Christmas tree 2009.

Our attempt at a repeat family photo... this year didn't go as well as last year.

We FINALLY took pictures of our outside Christmas lights. We have been NUTSO busy and honestly just hadn't had time to take the gazillion lights and decorations down in an organized manner. We finally got 'em down and I snapped some pictures before. I am a bit mad though because I forgot to turn the outside Christmas tree lights on and it was pretty cool. Boo.

You can barely see the cool little, purple tree... that should have been lit with white lights. =(

The back door.

The front entrance.

We're looking forward to next year. I want to see how many years our apartments can deny us first place. There was no denying it this year but they did, somehow. They don't like us very much and we are certain they won't ever let us win a competition. Hehe. Oh well. I loved every second of it.

Mork & Mindy

I grew up watching the good stuff: Mork and Mindy, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, The Brady Bunch, etc. Most shows were awesome and most are still considered classics. I can't say the same for the crap our children watch these days; it is ridiculous and we outta be ashamed of ourselves for allowing it.

Mork and Mindy was one of my absolute favorites. As an adult, I purchased all the seasons and have enjoyed watching them on many occassions. :) Incredible. If you haven't seen it, google it and find an episode. Classic.

I Will Love Them Forever

Golden Girls - one of the best shows ever made, no doubt about it.

Those three women will forever be my heros and the amaziness of Golden Girls forever in my heart.
The Golden Girls - Just incredible writing, acting, and soul.

Oh my... he is coming!

Oh... my... goodness... I am still trying to catch my breath. David Garza will be at ACL this year and Jon and I will be there!

(David Garza at ACL - photo by Steve Hopson)

David has been in my top 3 for years and I have Jonathan to thank. He introduced me when we first started dating and I have been in love ever since (with both of them!).

I have been waiting for him to be at ACL since I first heard his amaziness and he is finally back! He is super fantabulous and totally great. Check David Garza out HERE and dude, go see a show!

In 1999 David was voted in the Austin Chronicle as the No. 2 Austin Musician of the Decade, behind only Stevie Ray Vaughn (http://4thcitynoise.blogspot.com/).

Oh, Gallagher!

I loved watching his show. I couldn't have been older than 10 when I first saw the show shown above. After that, I stayed up countless nights waiting for Gallagher to come on.

Jon loved it just as much as I did. It was a cool part of our history and it will live in our memories forever. Gallagher, giants couches, and exploding watermelons... nice.

A New Set of Paints

I love art. I've loved to draw since I was itty bitty and have loved every corner of the arts for as long as I can remember. Drawing, dancing, acting, music, singing, painting, sculpting, photography. It's my passion.

I've never taken any painting classes but I've used acrylic paints for a long time to have a little bit of fun here and there. I've never done any serious watercolor paintings and honestly, I didn't know there was any special kind of technique.

I tried my hand at it again and had an awesome time drawing my magical land.

Later, I found out that I have the cheapest set if paints and have no idea what water coloring is all about. Hehe. Luckily, Jon got me a watercolor how-to book for Christmas so I'll be a pro very soon!

Go out, get some tube watercolors (supposedly the best kind), and try it out! More details coming soon!!!!

Trail of Lights Virgin No More

It was super great!

Totally incredible.

Extremely fantabulous.

We had to park and walk a little way to get to the Trail and it just happened to be downhill... which meant we had to walk uphill on the way back. Geez.

On the way we saw the coolest tree in someone's yard and I had to get a picture. The owner's came out at some point... like they didn't think people would want a picture of that!

My father is hilarious. And it was so nice to see my Auntie Lynn!

(In front of the coolest tree & laughing at Dad... see below.)

It was GREAT and yes I'm a little late. We went December 20th when my fantabulous Dad, Aunt Lynn, and Cindy came down to celebrate Christmas. It was SO much fun and so cool to spend the day with them in Austin. =) And the Trail was worth every second of the walking in my opinion... although maybe not in Dad's. Hehe.

(Take one... Yep.)

Well, on with the Trail! This is an art all in it's own. It's absolutely beautiful.

Here are some of my favorites...

(THE BEGINNING.)

(The tree's on fire!!!!!)

(Jon's Art)

(I loved the rainbow!!!)

(And the stream!)

(My absolute fave!!!)

(THE END... of the trail.)

2008 was fantabulous! GO NEXT YEAR!!!! It's worth every mile... and a half.

Circles Are My Friend

I love circles. Always have. When I was a kid, I remember hearing someone talk about different shapes and what kind of emotions they projected from a person's inner being. I can't remember what squares were all about. I only remember that triangles were bad and circles were good.

I've wanted to be an artist since I can remember. I've always loved drawing, painting, sculpting, writing, dancing... doodling. Ha. I got into a lot of trouble during middle school; it's an awkward time as is, but for some reason I felt the need to doodle obsessively throughout my classes. My Mom was called several times and I was usually in detention a couple times a week. It wasn't that I didn't want to pay attention to the lesson- I just wanted to doodle more. Hehe. Eventually I got over it and learned to project my artist energies at more appropriate times.

At some point I fell in love with drawing circles. I don't know when or why. I've always doodled them here and there, but one day, I made a page of them; one 8 x 11 piece of paper full of ink drawn circles. I loved it. The uniqueness of each circle and the way they combined to cover the entire page... awesome.

(Black and White Ovals - June 2007 - A.M.Y.)

Tiny, big, circles, ovals... I've done many circle drawings since my first; each one is different than the one before and each one is cooler than I could have imagined; I just love circles. Some could say I'm obsessed with circles. But I say, it's not an obsession, it's a passion.

Recently, I've rediscovered my love for chalk. What a joy! Chalk is one of those timeless entertainments; you love it as a kiddo, when you're an awkward teenager, during those rebellious college years, as new found adult, and even when you're an older and much wiser adult... how could anyone not love chalk?

Well, Jonathan and I got creative and started some chalk art right outside our front door. It was really cool. It started as a few circles, which spread to many circles, which lead to many more circles.

(Circle Chalk Drawing - September 2008 - Jonathan & A.M.Y.)

Using every beautiful color possible really added to the whimsical theme. It definitely livened our corner up! The neighbors even walked around our two squares to help preserve them a few more days. It was just a dang good time.

Then Jon added stripes. They too totally rocked.

(Circle & Stripe Chalk Drawing - September 2008 - Jonathan & A.M.Y.)

Since we've had NO rain, the chalk drawing remains. There was minor damage from a nearby sprinkler, but the awesomeness is still evident. =) Obviously I'm torn- I'd love for the drawing to stay there forever, but we need rain sometime, and it needs to be sooner than later... unfortunately for the chalk drawing.

All in all, I think circles will always have a very special place in my heart. I think I'll probably always doodle them here and there. As for now, I'm still in major circle-drawing mode. Today, I did my first drawing in marker; I usually use pen and each one has to be circled several times. The marker is much more exact and I think I've found something new to perfect. It'll be fun trying. I love circles.
